A company about Comfort, Fun, and Family
Comfy Cottage Candles was started on January first of 2003 after a busy end to the holiday season. Finding its origins in last minute Christmas presents the idea of a new business and the possibilities of what we could do with it helped us make that leap. Here is our story.
Comfy Cottage Candles was started as I said before January first of 2003 by my mom, Pam Waugh, and myself, Megan Waugh. Mom had been wandering around the internet and found something about soy candles. She ordered a small bag of wax and some fragrance which just happened to come in right before I was asking about ideas for my grandmothers for Christmas. She tossed me the wax from the box next to her desk and I stood in the doorway of the dining room wondering how on earth I was going to make candles. A little digging in the attic and garage found wicking and a few containers that I thought would work nicely. Long story short a few hours later I had knotted wicking, used food coloring for color and made some nice looking soy candles. I wrapped them in ribbon and proudly gave my creations to Grandma and Grandmother for Christmas that year.
This could be a fun way to make money we decided so we started thinking of easier ways to make them and researching what worked well. We decided on a name and even the little picture that we use for our cottage (this is not either of our houses although it is a real live house).
Over the next year we learned a lot and made lots of candles. The candles that we have today seem so foreign to what we made back then even. We would pour in anything and we didn’t test much of anything. But out of all of this we emerged with a line of candles that we think looks awesome and well put together. Since coming together with a good basis for the products that we sell, we have done fundraisers, craft shows, and a wedding. We have a website Comfy Cottage Candles if you would like to look at our candles, or better yet, buy some.
We are very proud of both the way our candles look and the quality of them. Like I said before we have come a long way since we started and have been told that our candles are better than some of the “big” brands that everyone is familiar with. So feel free to give us a try and we hope you like them. We have a lots of scents to choose from and can get hundreds more if you find something that we don’t have but you would like.
